During most of my life I have been opinionated, sometimes forceful, often annoying to people who disagreed with me. In that, I suspect I am like millions, maybe billions, of other people.
I try to base my opinions an the data about which I know. Always -- always -- there is data about which I do not know. We are compelled to choose, decide and act with insufficient data. We are finite, living in a vastly bigger universe which may well be part of something even more incomprehensible called, for lack of a better word, "eternity". As far as I can tell, we will always have insufficient information and an inadequate grasp of the data to act, decide or choose without some trepidation, some finger-crossing or some fudgepfactor.
It's true of offering opinions and commentary as well. I would appreciate your feedback or understanding even as I offer mine. Where you disagree, please do so in a civil manner. Offer new data, a new approach to analysis, please and not just the opinion that you are right and I am wrong.
Our of our "conversations" I hope we grow.
Why should you read Al Lustie's Opinions and Comments?
You should read Al Lustie's comments because he thinks, he interacts with people of various opinions and positions, and he brings a long life of study, living, experiencing and questioning to each article.
There was a time when he "shot from the hip" more often than not. He thinks before he speaks and he thinks twice before he writes.
Having said that, sometimes he needs to revise his writing two or three more times.
Oh, yes, he also brings his values to each article. These values include:
- openness
- fairness
- mistrust of pat answers
- mistrust of ideologies
- affirmation of people
- affirmation of the complexity of life as we live it
There are others, but in an era when insults, extreme positions, discourtesy and polarization into camps is the norm, he brings something that you may enjoy.
