Can Morality and Ethics be separated?

Most scholars would say "Yes."

I say, "No."

If you have checked out my comments on ethics, you will see that in my view, ethical behavior "looks after" the well-being of others. So, suppose a person has sex with someone she or he is not married to. Most religions would classify this as "immoral". But wait!

What does this do to the well-being of the spouse whose trust is bent, if not broken? Does this act, or series of acts, enhance the dignity, the peace of mind and the sense of well-being of the faithful spouse? Generally not.

(I am assuming that the spouse who has sex outside the marriage bond does not bring home a sexaully transmitted disease. If she/he does, then the violation of the "well being" of the spouse is multiplied.

What about pornography?

It may, or may not, enhance the libido of the person reading it or looking at it. But what does it do to the people posing? And, when we consider child pornography, what about the thousands of children who are violated, damaged and eventually murdered to fuel the needs of this immoral and, yes, unethical industry?

You can follow my thinking here. Moral behavior and ethical behavior are very, very much related.

Writing is hard work. Each of the pieces contributed to this site were "provoked" by reading, listening, conversing and trying to understand.

But. . . coming up with a written, comprehensible article has taken a lot of work.
Sometimes an article will not speak to you.
Sometimes it simply will not make sense. Let us know

Civics -- It's all about how our community, town, county, state, nation and world agree to get along. It includes politics, civility, voting, appointing, and so much more.
